NBC Olympics - FM DeeJay compression technique

If anyone wants to hear how a compressor / expander should NOT sound, please tune in to Bob Costas in the NBC studio in Beijing.

Last night I was amazed that I could hear breathing nearly as well as I could hear speaking.

I was also "enjoying" the sound of the compressor ruining any of the acoustic work done in the studio to minimize natural reverb and echo.

I watch a fair amount of live NBC sports on their HD channel so I know that it wasnt my cable system or at the NBC facility spanking the living decibels out of the mix.

Breathing and the hum of the HVAC were very apparent in the interview with the President and the voices were so heavily compressed they almost sound disconnected to the images I am watching on the screen.
